Celebrate Recovery at Trussville First has hit several milestones! What milestones do you ask?
We have embraced new faces each Tuesday for the past three years. This is a major milestone because many CR programs only last a year or two before they stop holding meetings. This program requires a dedicated leadership team of volunteers who are constantly reaching out to those who might not realize they need such a program.
The second milestone is that Trussville CR has become known as a safe place to find healing from life's battles! Most people think of a recovery program only dealing with drugs or alcohol issues but at CR we also help with issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, eating disorders, abuse, neglect, abandonment, and many other such issues that hinder us from living an abundant life of joy.
The third milestone is that we average between 50 and 60 in attendance each week. Many new CR programs never reach this number in attendance. Many only have an attendance of 10 or less each week. Your CR program is a place where healed people are helping people in many ways.
The fourth milestone is that a new CR program was launched off of this one in January 2022 and they have become an anchor for recovery in their community also! Congrats to the Celebrate Recovery team at Faith UMC on having such a successful first year! We are so proud of ya'll! We are praying over you and your program constantly! We look forward to having many decades of recovery ministry with your group and launching new CR programs together in other communities!
On January 3rd, 2023, we celebrated these milestones and gave God glory for the things He has done, is doing and will do through this program in the future! We have an amazing leadership team who speaks life into the lives that attend this program each week!
Happy Birthday CR!!!
I have had many people ask me why I love the recovery ministry called, “Celebrate Recovery or CR”. Celebrate Recovery is a street ministry that occurs inside the church walls. CR is a Christ-centered 12 step program. Participants ask Christ into their hearts, as their Lord and Savior, so the full path to recovery can begin. Celebrate Recovery is not a recovery program for addicts with chemical and alcohol addictions alone. It helps people find healing with wounds caused by abuse, grief, over-eating, gambling, and unhealthy relationships of many different kinds. It is a program that helps to remove the chemical band aid of addiction but also helps to heal the deeper wounds of hurts, habits, and hang-ups.
It was CR where God revealed my ministry to #SpeakLife every chance I could. I have seen so many people feel like there is no escape from the generational curse they were born into and they have accepted that they are worthless. During the five years I served on the leadership T.E.A.M. in Springville, I have met close to 2,000 women. I have seen so many of them humble their hearts and obey God’s will for their lives. I have seen so many success stories. I have tried to keep in contact with as many as possible. I tell everyone that being involved in CR is God giving us a front row seat to the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH and that show is called RESTORATION AND REDEMPTION. I have seen marriages restored, children restored to parents, first cars bought, first homes bought, and these same people answer the call on their lives to serve God in their local CR ministry.
In recovery, there are a few sayings. One is that if nothing changes then nothing changes. Another is that mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we deserve while grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve. My heart will forever belong to a recovery ministry. If the church is the hospital, God is the ultimate Physician, and CR is the emergency room where Jesus is always on call to reach one more wounded soul. No matter where you find yourself along the path of recovery, we are reminded by 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God’s grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in our weakness.
God can and will move mountains when we step out of His way and give Him complete control of our chaos. I look forward to seeing how God will grow and use each of us through the Celebrate Recovery Ministry at Trussville First Methodist. I am excited and honored to be part of the healing process for those looking for Hope in our surrounding communities.
Much Agape ev’body,
Shan
