Stephen Minister Training
Is God calling you to consider being a Stephen Minister? Stephen Ministers support the mission and ministry of the church in two primary ways. First, they are available to be a Christian caregiver, confidentially walking with an individual as they travel through one of life’s valleys – a death, medical, financial, job, family, or spiritual crisis, as examples. The role of the Stephen Minister is not to “fix” the challenge but to walk with the individual and support him or her as they move through the stress of the crisis. The second way is to use the training in their own lives as they interface on a daily basis with friends or strangers who are experiencing some of life’s challenges but who may not require continuing support.
Training to become a Stephen Minister involves about two hours per week for 24 weeks (not unlike a Disciple Bible study. The classes are held on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:15 p.m. The next training sessions will begin in late January and wrap up in June. If God is pushing you to engage in learning how to be a Christian caregiver, please touch base with one of the Stephen Ministers and complete the short application (available in the church office in the Stephen Ministry box or from a Stephen Minister). If you have questions about the program, ask any Stephen Minister or contact Stuart Garner (cell 770-354-3372)
